Hi, briz here! I have just finished writing songs for a project I call "Freedom Stairway." Based on interviews conducted in the 1930s with former slaves by the United States Government's Works Progress Administration,(WPA) the story revolves around the Underground Railroad, and the attempt of thousands of slaves to reach the "Freedom Stairway." The saga is based on real people and places and some of the songs are culled directly from the slaves interviews.

Starting in January I'll be performing my "Freedom Stairway" songs at a number of schools, museums, libraries, listening rooms and folk organizations that would like to present this entertaining and educational show to students, adults and fans of acoustic roots music.

Already I have gotten invitations from many educators and promoters for Black History Month, but "Freedom" can be performed year round. The show runs for approximately 45 minutes and can be tailored for shorter programs. I can also include an additional set of contemporary original songs that I perform regularly on the Philadelphia Folk circuit to make a complete evening of acoustic music. Freedom is performed with a stark backdrop and I use black and white photos to enhance the imagery.

If you are interested in booking a performance of "Freedom Stairway",or know of an organization that would benefit from this program, you can send me an e-mail at briz@brizsongs.com or phone, (609-771-4217) and I will send out a CD of "Freedom Stairway" music and some additional info about myself.
Peace,
briz
